WelCOME
Seeking therapy can feel vulnerable, and finding the right therapist matters. I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and life transitions. My goal is to create a space where clients feel safe, understood, and supported while also developing practical tools that promote meaningful change.
My name is Lindsay Powelson. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri (#2004024728) and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Kansas (#03464). I earned my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University in 2004 and have worked in the mental health field for more than 18 years.
I am a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional – Level II (CCTP-II), and a Certified Sex Therapy Informed Professional (CSTIP). I also hold advanced certifications in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT) and Personality Disorders (C-PD). I am a full member of WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health), the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), and the Kansas City LGBT Affirming Therapist Guild.
My Approach
My practice is grounded in empathy, inclusivity, and respect. I provide therapy for women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people from historically marginalized racial and ethnic communities, offering a safe and affirming space to heal from trauma, manage anxiety or depression, and navigate complex life transitions.
I approach therapy with cultural humility and an intersectional perspective, recognizing the unique strengths, experiences, and identities each person brings. When someone’s needs fall outside my scope of practice, I provide trusted referrals so they can receive the most appropriate support.
What Therapy Is Like
Therapy with me is not only about talking, it is about understanding patterns, building skills, and creating meaningful change. Sessions are collaborative and conversational, while also practical and goal-focused. You set the pace and priorities, and I offer education, feedback, and evidence-based tools to support emotional regulation, healthier relationships, and greater confidence in daily life.
Together we explore experiences with curiosity and compassion, without judgment, while developing tools for self-awareness, communication, and boundary-setting. My goal is to help clients gain clarity, reconnect with their strengths, and move toward living more authentically.
A Safe, Affirming Space
Every session is intended to be a space of safety and acceptance where you can show up fully as yourself. Healing often begins when people feel truly seen, understood, and supported. Therapy can create the opportunity to process difficult experiences, build resilience, and move forward with greater self-trust.
I would be honored to support you in that process.
